Welcome to McGrue and Rainbow Cemeteries, two legacy resting places nestled in the heart of southern Brazoria County, where the history of Sweeny Texas runs deep.

Read Our Story

Our mission extends beyond preserving the past; it is about celebrating life and serving families with utmost care and empathy.

Founded in the late 1800s, McGrue Cemetery stands as a peaceful resting place for individuals who were once enslaved or who were the direct descendants of enslaved people in the area. In a time when racial equality in burial was not granted, McGrue emerged as a dignified sanctuary, offering a final resting place that exudes respect and honor.

Rainbow Cemetery, an extension of McGrue, came into existence in the year 2000. Both cemeteries are united by a common thread of compassion and love.

Those interred in the cemeteries include notable community figures and well-respected members of loving families who served the city of Sweeny and surrounding areas. A host of veterans, educators, and other notable figures are laid to rest at McGrue and Rainbow cemeteries.

Amidst the solemnity, there is a wellspring of peace waiting to be discovered within these grounds. We extend a warm invitation to you to explore, reflect, and find your own connection to the stories that echo through these resting places.
